Is it already over? Labor Day is now gone and fall is almost upon us. Where did those three days go?! Hell, where did summer go? But tomorrow I am back to the grind of everyday life.
I have officially thrown my hat (or should I say scissors) into ‘Fall for Cotton’, a vintage sew along with cotton. Hosted by Rochelle from LuckyLucille.Com and Tasha from bygumbygolly.com, the premise is simple, use a vintage pattern (can also use one of the great new patterns that are vintage inspired or a pattern that you can use to recreate a vintage look) and you have to use 100% cotton. It officially began on September 1 and you have until September 30 to complete your garment and post on their flickr group. Make sure you click the button below and join us. This will be the perfect sew along to create something for my daughter, Stef. She loves vintage and since I have been working on garments for Ash lately she is certainly due.
Stef has searched through my vintage pattern stash and came up with a couple of patterns, she likes McCalls 4920 because of the full skirt, but she doesn’t quite want it so full. She loves the sleeves and the peter pan collar on the Butterick 3703. I have to admit I was shocked, I really thought she would have selected a 60’s sheath dress, guess it shows you never really know everything about your children. I got a bodice cut out and on the dressform awaiting Stef’s visit so she can try it on. I can already tell that the bodice needs to be shortened. The McCalls size is a teen 15 with a bust size of 35, certainly sizes has changed over the years, and this pattern is going to give me fitting challenges.
