Something has gone horribly horribly wrong. When I first starting on my FFC challenge I created a muslin, we pinned and adjusted and the next muslin fit perfectly. I separated the muslin, cut the fabric using those pieces and stitched them together, so confident that it would all fit. Epic Failure. The fitting tonight is depressing. I am a loss at how to fix this or if it can be fixed. I have now gone into full shutdown mode. 
Notice the huge gap with excess fabric above the bust. OMG! I tried to pin an extra dart, I tried taking in the side seam, I just don’t know what to do, other than rip it up and start all over again, which clearly I do not have time to do! I will not sleep tonight, I will lay there playing this failure over and over in my head.

Aw, sweetie, I’m so sorry!! I commiserate in your fitting woes! Did you use the same type of fabric (woven, same drape, stretch, weight, etc) to make your muslin? What about taking in the side seams, tapering to the waist as well as just making the bust darts much bigger? I’m afraid I’m not an expert at fitting, but hopefully you will not lose sleep tonight and get it sorted.
I thought that the weight of the muslin was the exact weight. It is almost as if I could have shorten the bodice about the waist line by about 2″. It almost looks like I have everything shifted up. Grrrr…
I’m so sorry to hear that. It’s so frustrating when you almost have and then loose it just at the end. It seems this FFC is giving us many headaches. I’ve been stuck for more than 2 weeks and now I’m rushing to finish in time 😦
Oh, I am so sorry 😦 I know how you must be feeling… It is hard to see from the photo, but it looks as the shoulder seam is too long, and the overbust too big. The top of the armscye sort of hangs out over your shoulder. Perhaps you could shorten the shoulder seam a bit and trim off some around the armscye front (just a little!). The bust dart is a good idea, play around with it until you think it looks better. Everything you do to this area will effect the fit of the sleeve (if your adding one), so you may have to alter these slightly too. I am no expert on fitting, and I know this is such a pain in the rear, but in the end; this is what you will learn from 🙂 If you feel totally defeated, sew something else for the challenge, maybe a nice blouse pattern you know works for you. It will get your spirits up, you have an entry for the challenge, and then finish the dress later, when the pressure is off. Don’t give up, it happens to all of us 😉 Chin up, hun!
Ps: Pardon the intimate question, but are you using the same kind of underpinnings as you did with the muslin? Different bras, do different things to the silhouette 😉
Siri, Thanks for the tips, I am going to try something tonight, using my best friend, Mr. Seam Ripper, and dismantling the bodice. Grr.. And on my way home I will be stopping at the fabric store to pick up more of the khaki fabric. Her undergarments are the same I think, or at least fit her the same. She has found one brand that works for her. I tried to pinch a dart above the bust but it didn’t seem to work. …Since we work on different schedules our fitting are sporadic, I get one a day. My dress form is too big for her, I guess I should have purchased a child’s and padded up. I am just so depressed, plus I was a procrastinator and now I am suffering the results from that.
It’s probably extra depressing since it is for someone else… And hard, with the schedules and all. Yeah, I did the procrastinating big time too,and seriously don’t know how I am going to make it in time. I guess we’ll have to have some wine, and bring out the Wonderwomen in us this weekend! I hope you figure it out, and feel better 🙂
I am not a fitting expert either- I am always thrilled when something fits with little or no extra work… But I do know how you are feeling. I have several unfinished items floating around because the fit was so depressing after a ton of work.

How is it going? I came to your blog today to see if you had news about this project. I hope you’re feeling better, and you know sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves and give too much importance to this deadlines. You know, if we cannot make it for this one, there will be more sewalongs. And finishing in time but with a poor fit will guarantee that the garment will not be worn. So, as the people above here said, drink a glass of wine, relax and take notice of the important things of life. This is just another sewalong.
